Team Orientation
I am not a fan of "arms distance" relationships.
Rather, I prefer to function almost as an internal
SEO department (even on short assignments),
understanding as much as possible about what the
site owner thinks is wrong, or needs development.
Open Communication
The site owner knows more about the site than
anyone, and must be able to share any relevant
information if the process is to achieve maximum
success.
For my part, I will answer any question. I will
also explain why I think what I think, how
confident I am in any given POV or conclusion, and
what the issues and alternatives are. The smarter
my clients become about search, site structure,
SEO, etc., the better they are as clients, and the
more time we can spend focusing on solving problems
or uncovering new opportunities together.
SEO As a Marketing
Tool
I never look just at the technical side of
SEO. I review the client's goals, understand how
those goals impact the marketing of the site, and
then provide focused recommendations that reflect
business and marketing goals. This approach can
lead to sharpening of existing efforts as well as
the identification of new opportunities, affecting
everything from keyword selection and emphasis to
link building efforts.
Risk/Reward
Assessment
Few things in search are absolute. There may still
be occasional "silver bullet" solutions, but in
most cases, sites have multiple issues that create
varying levels of risk.
Every recommendation we make is accompanied by a
risk assessment, so clients understand the risk of
going forward, and/or of not going forward.
Follow Up
I don't just work and go away. If a client has
questions or needs clarification once a project has
ended, I will be more than happy to help. Also,
some clients prefer to keep me on limited retainer.
